On May 21, 2012 Time Magazine launched its most controversial cover, in my opinion. A woman breastfeeding her 3-year-old son on the cover for a story on “attachment parenting,” and reactions ranged from applause to cringing to shrugs. Personally, I loved it. Its bold, it gets your attention and don’t get me started on the recall value. The article itself questioned whether it’s okay to breastfeed a child beyond a certain age.
I honestly don’t see the big. It’s about personal choice ultimately. But yes, it is provocative but what’s the harm in that? What isn’t these day? In this day and age when gets are getting molested, raped and abuse right at home, making your life revolve around a child seems like a pretty good way to go.
But Twitter was on fire ( as expected) and some of the remarks were:
Breastfeeding your 3-year-old is one thing,” the Daily News’ Bill Hammond wrote . “But putting a picture of him doing it on the cover of Time?
Anybody else slightly slack-jawed over this week’s Time cover?” The Atlantic Wire’s Adam Clark Estes asked rhetorically.
