Since vegetarian foods have a far lesser quantity of saturated fats, it has been noticed that vegetarians tend to also have a lower body mass index.
In truth, a balanced diet is better than a bad vegetarian diet. A bad vegetarian diet is one that is though depended on fruits, vegetables, grains and legumes, uses a lot of oils and fats for cooking. If you must become vegetarian, ensure that you choose a lot of high fiber food that is low in saturated fats, sugars and excess salt.
Plant based diets have the potential to offer a variety of vitamins and minerals that exist naturally and these can be very beneficial. However, it is also true that many vegetarian diets do not fulfill a person’s daily requirements of Iron, Protein and Vitamin B12. Some vegetarians also replace meats with simple carbohydrates, which can be a serious mistake if you turned in to a vegetarian because of health reasons and not religious reasons.
Why Are So Many People Turning Vegetarian?
One of the biggest reason people turn vegetarian is because plant based foods are easier to digest and better for health. They devoid of fats, since all meats and even eggs do have some fat content.
Also, vegetarian food is easier to digest and that makes it more palatable for those who are older and prone to digestive disorders. Also, a lot of vegetarian foods like fruits and some vegetables can be eaten raw, keeping their mineral and nutrient wealth intact.
However, if you are a vegetarian, ensure that your diet doesn’t lack in protein. Proteins break in to amino acids which are the building blocks. Hence, Soyabean, cottage cheese, other cheese and dairy and legumes are a must in any healthy vegetarian diet.
One must remember that even if you choose to be vegetarian, eating healthy is more a way of how you cook your food rather than what you cook.
Non Vegetarian Foods: Are They Really So Bad For You?
It has been noticed that incidences of Diabetes Type 2, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and obesity is more common amongst those who are vegetarians. Lean chicken breast, eggs, fish and even lean red meat are all good options if you do not cook them in fat laden gravies. Grill, broil, boil, poach and roast your meat to reduce the fat content in them.
In fact, eating a diet that is a good balanced between low fat meats and healthy fruits and vegetables is far healthier than eating a diet that is primarily vegetarian but used many recipes that are deep fried or made in gravies with clarified butter. A non vegetarian diet ensures your body gets enough proteins, vitamins and minerals, all of which are healthy for you.
A non-vegetarian diet has some benefits over a vegetarian diet, and these are:
- Does not lack in any important nutrient and includes proteins with a high biological value, Vitamin B12 and Iron.
- Fish and Eggs is two of the best sources of healthy fats, which are important for your body to absorb and process many vitamins and minerals that are not water soluble.
- More versatility in menus means it is easier to make a healthy meal every day without it becoming too repetitive.
In the end, whether you choose to be vegetarian or non-vegetarian, the decision is a personal one. However, ensure that as a vegetarian your diet is not devoid of quality proteins and necessary calories.

When it comes to eliminating animal fat, meat and dairy completely from their diet, you are a bit sceptical. But what if focussing on a vegan diet, if only for a little while, is the key to ageing without ailments?
It is clearly evident to thousands of people today that unhealthy weight gain is the primary reason so many people are being diagnosed with Diabetes, Hypertension, Heart diseases and much more. And yet, no matter how hard they try, they cannot seem to lose as much weight as they want.
I once went to a party where the host served fruits for dessert. Yes, fruits. Now don’t get me wrong. I love fruits especially cold black grapes but I love traditional desserts more. But there’s a war against sugar these days and as a fitness blogger, I am expected to join this war to even lead it.
Excessive sugar is bad for you but desserts are delicious and I will never propagate quitting sugar completely. Whats the point of being super healthy if the sight of a chocolate cake makes you tremble in your boots?
Well, that’s why I prefer to modify my desserts like this Chocolate Mousse recipe. Trust me, it’s delicious but also high in protein so it acts as a perfectly satiating option.
Here’s how you make it:
You Will Need:
- Mix everything together in a large bowl with a blender till the mixture is smooth and fluffy.
- Pour into small glasses and chill for 2 hours.
I prefer to refrigerate the mousse in small shot glasses so it each glass serves as one portion.
So the next time you feel a sugar craving, just try one of these and I am sure you will love it!
How did you like the recipe? Would love to know your thoughts?

To maximise muscle-building processes in your body, eat more frequent meals – maybe a
small meal every 2.5 or 3 hours. Also, consume the right proportion of proteins,
carbohydrates and fats. But these are facts that every gym enthusiast knows like old news.
We all have tried them, they work but they don’t have that extra ‘edge’ we need to get
So here are 5 new diet tips that you haven’t seen before.
1. Stop Looking For A Magic Diet
Stop asking people, ‘Which diet works best?’ There is no BEST diet; every individual has
unique needs and how to make adjustments in your diet depends on the results you get by trying various diets yourself. While there is no one ‘best’ diet out there, there is a best diet for you, which will suit your specific needs. To fine tune your fat loss, start with a reasonable caloric intake per day where proteins, carbs and fats are closely monitored, so that you can analyse where you need to make cuts.
Important Tip: One way to see faster results in through carb cycling – try low, medium and high days to keep caloric intake fluctuating.
2. Ease Up On The Cardio
Did you think that getting ripped means doing extensive amounts of cardio? You’re wrong – diet is way more important than cardio in this case. Create a diet chart that allows you to consistently lose weight.
Once the fat loss has become consistent, try a little cardio to accelerate the fat loss. Remember that your body is already struggling with a huge calorie deficit that comes from cutting, so don’t add too much cardio too soon because that will only result in muscle loss.
Important Tip: Forget running and try HIIT – High Intensity Interval Training for a more
effective cardio workout in a shorter time span.
3. Control The Rate Of Your Fat Loss
Losing too much fat too soon can result in disaster. You need to lose no more than 1kg per week, unless you are carrying around a lot of weight. But if you are trying to get shredded by losing body fat levels consistently, losing the weight at a slow rate will prevent muscle loss and will also help you keep the weight down permanently.
Important Tip: You always lose weight a lot faster in the first week. Wait till week three to carefully analyse where you need to make cuts in your diet.
4. Well-Defined Abs Can Only Come From Your Diet
No matter how many crunches, sit-ups and leg raises you do, your abs are a result of your diet. Since you already are cutting and have a healthy diet, you can relax on these. To strip belly fat, overusing your direct abs is not the best technique. Keep abs workout to no more than two or three sessions a week and ensure that your diet has high fibre coming from nuts, green vegetables and fresh fruit as well as full of high-quality protein.
Important Tip: Instead of leg raises and crunches, try cable crunches and weighted sit-ups for adding resistance to your abs workout.
5. Cheat Once A Week
Now this may sound silly, but did you know that strict dieting can reduce the levels of a
hormone called leptin in the body.
As leptin levels dwindle, your body’s metabolism starts to stagger and this is not good if you are trying to get shredded. To avoid that, simple keep one cheat day a week, or even one meal a week where you forget all the rules and eat to your heart’s content.
This cheat meal will bring the leptin levels back up and increase your metabolism once more.
Important Tip: If you don’t have great self-control, keep the cheat window no more than
one hour per week. You can also move this window to include some social activity or a meal out with friends.

You already know that drinking tea is good for you – it gives you a powerful dose of antioxidants, keeps your bones and teeth healthier, helps combat stress and anxiety, and will even help fight risk of Alzheimer’s and Diabetes.
But when your wise old grandmother told you that ghee could in fact help you lose weight, she wasn’t kidding! Yes, this is not an old wives’ tale —- ghee helps you lose weight for real!
While butter is a huge turn-off for health junkies, Ghee has recently achieved the status of a health-promoting, Paleo approved Super-Food. Let’s find out why.
Ghee Is All Healthy Fats
Ghee is made by heating butter until all the milk solids separate and are then removed. It’s not got any dairy or lactose – just the healthy saturated fats found in milk that are essential for boosting immunity, muscle recovery as well as brain health.
It may sound like a paradox, but health experts will tell you that eating some amount of healthy fat is crucial for burning fat.
Ghee super-charges the gall bladder and hence flushes out old bile, encouraging the body to make fresh bile.
In fact, it’s commonly used in ‘oleation’ – a cleansing technique wherein 50-60ml of liquefied ghee is consumed in the morning for three days, every 3 months, so that it can lubricate the body with oil to attract all fat and fat soluble toxins that are then eliminated from the body.
It encourages fat metabolism and hence help shed accumulated fat reserves from the body. Ghee is also great for those looking to bulk-up as it fuels the body and helps rebuilding muscle lost during weight lifting.
The primary fatty acid in ghee is butyric acid, which is already made by healthy bacteria in our gut, and further supplementing it helps to increase immunity and eliminate all bad bacteria, while supporting growth of good bacteria. It has a hearty dose of Vitamins A, D, E and K, along with Omegas 3 & 9, all of which the body absorbs readily. What’s better –it aids in healthy digestion instead of sitting heavy in the stomach, which means that it also keeps digestive bloat at bay.
Add A Hearty Dose Of Ghee To Your Diet
The Conjugated Linolenic Acid in ghee is a type of Omega-6 fatty acid that is great for cleansing the body, boosting weight loss and is even rumoured to provide protection from cancer. Studies show that CLAs are great for weight loss, and also prevent weight gain. The amino acids in ghee mobilize fat cells so that they are used for fuel to energize your body, hence shrinking them in size.
Eat ghee in moderation, because it is after all, saturated fat. The daily recommended dose for ghee is 2 tablespoons per day for an active adult. Use it to sauté vegetables, add flavourful tadka to dals and curries, spread onto paranthas and rotis, and it also tastes yummy when added to freshly boiled steamed rice.
If you are the kind of person who prefers a fast workout that promises lots of calories burned and quick weight loss, chances are that you never considered Yoga.
